Holocene is set in 2024 for aesthetic reasons, but the story is post season 2 which is canonically May 2010.

The easiest way to reconcile the difference is to shift the timeline forward. However, events on Holocene are set two years post season 2 and so where necessary substitute 2010 for 2022 using the canon timeline provided - The Vampire Diaries Timeline. This is so that the setting of the site can be modern day without aging the human characters into their 30s. Ageless characters like vampires do not need to have their date of birth brought forward. However, canon events in their life that intersect with humans of the site should be brought forward.

For example, Elena Gilbert's date of birth is 22 June 1992 and so her date of birth on Holocene would be 22 June 2004. Stefan Salvatore's date of birth is November 1, 1846 but since Stefan is a vampire his date of birth does not need to be adjusted. We understand this can seem confusing since certain canon events for Stefan remain the same chronologically while others need to change. An example of a canon event that remains the same is Stefan meeting Klaus and Rebekah in 1922, this does not need to be moved to 1934. However, Stefan and Elena met in September 2009. Given Elena would be 5, the timing needs to be adjusted.

We feel the two year time jump is a great opportunity to really make your character your own. What have the been up to for two years? We are planning to keep a track of significant events in the timeline right here and so would love to hear what your charies have been doing!
